If you pair a MOTU or a Nuendo setup with some nice external converters I don't think your soundquality will be less than if you were using PT HD. The reason I do this is because I know the interface from PT so well that it makes mixing a little easier, my workflow is better and thus I can make a better mix. Then I mix ITB with PT LE and use the S/pdif out of the mbox to the Fireface so I can still monitor thru those converters. When I do my own projects I choose to use DP for tracking, because it allows me to use more inputs and use my Fireface converter.

I use PT HD at work, and LE and DP at home. The thing is, I have never compared them side to side.

Pro Tools is much more sensitive when it comes to hardware compatibility.I'll take the bait on this one because I use both. Plug inns are better than Reaper, altho I really dislike pro tools for not putting ADC standard in LE.(then again this is like Microsoft: Home and Enterprise Edition. if you have curved the learning curve it works nice. Love the Autotunish plug inn by Reaper.awesome, and it's free.

Reaper feels more like Linux, to make a metafore.Idealistic with lots of things for free you will never use as a pro. Pro Tools feels more Pro (graphically speaking).no joke: you will get influenced by the looks and feel of a DAW. Reaper is lighter, more intuitive.more customizable

Admittedly, there's some steps I need to take to be ready to go to Win7, but one step is to be assured that I can install the ASIO driver without problems, even if it means I only install it to work the 002R in Reaper alone.Д®DIT: chrisdee mentioned the cs2 for the beta drivers is supposed to take care of the white noise issue, so I may finally be more motivated to get my faults all fixed up.Дifficult since I have used both a long time, lately I decided to go for Pro Tools. Looking at it now and realizing it's been about a year since I've had this 64-Bit machine rendered in a Pro Tools limbo, I'm not too pleased. I only bought into it because I got comfortable with Pro Tools back when using Pro Tools Free. And to be honest, I didn't know Pro Tools was the 'industry standard' until I took interest more in it after buying my mbox (original one, have upgraded since). Though, I'd think it'd be about Pro Tools 10 (should the Pro Tools name stick around that much longer) or Pro Tools 11 before they earn the industry standard title once again. Take off the Reaper name, brand it as Pro Tools (for giggles, perhaps Pro Tools 9) and really spend time coding it more and making Pro Tools itself THE industry standard once again.

Wouldn't it be interesting if AVID buys out Cockos' Reaper program and changes it to be their new version of Pro Tools? I mean, the Digidesign crew could dick around with the 64 Bit compatibility or they could buy the rights to Reaper and redesign an already 64 Bit program into their own particular image. I assume AVID reads these threads and hopefully instead of saying that 'we are listening' they actually 'do' something and make Protools what it should have been I just wanted to say my peace as a Pro Tools customer for many years. No need to start a flame war.This is strictly my opnion. If I feel embarassed about Protools and it's shortcomings, I hope Avid feels the same way and steps up. (although, after the mod, I purchased a Great River pre and a Rosetta 200, so I wonder how much more improvement there would be with the BLA modded 002 now?) The only reason I would keep it is because of the BLA mod. Again, I am not trying to say that Reaper is the end all, be all.but dag, If the next major release of Pro Tools is nowhere near competitive, I can pretty much guarantee my 002 will be a paperweight.

They all leave a bad taste right now in my mouth. The inherently wrong betas, white noise, the expansion pack debacle, functions/features that should have been in the program years ago.

I really hope Avid steps up and puts their DAW software to the test.a CURRENT test of what is out there now. It's these little things that almost make me feel sorry about where PT is now and where it really should be. Not having to be locked into hardware is quite liberating I can say after tonight, I have used more keyboard shortcuts than I have with my years in PTДЈ) Not having to worry about nudging, compsensation, etc.beautifulД¤) Offline bouncing.wait, I don't have to listen to my song while it bounces?Д¦) The fact that the whole thing fits on a thumb drive is just insane. Protools got me around 4 tracks before access errors, shutting down my machine, and corrupting my project file.Дў) My biggest concern with Reaper was the learning curve. Instead of this being a Reaper love fest, I just want to concentrate on the 'smile' moments that I had tonightДЎ) I ran about 18 tracks of EastWest orchestra with Reaper without my pc breaking a sweat. I recorded my first project with Reaper tonight.
